Xian Zhu Xuande
ParticipantHuh… I registered and set it up but I don’t see it yet. Hopefully it appears in a bit. :)
Edit: There it is! Too bad I don’t have an option to link to a remote file.

ParticipantI’ve been told by others that the Lu Bu battle isn’t as hard as it was intended to be, and you’re not the only person who found the Liu Biao battle to be a challenge. The Jingzhou battles, aside from that one, aren’t super-hard, though. Make sure you’re putting tactics like Doubt and Mislead to good use! If you’ve still got Guard make sure you’re using it and keeping it up. If you’ve got Evade it works even better for some of those fights. :)
Thanks for your thoughts on the scripts. The first is based on an original DoaE script and I just changed the message to ‘war spear’ instead to better describe the weapon. You’re right. That correction would be better.
The second is from DoaE. You said it was in Jizhou?
I’ll go in and change it to something that makes a little more sense. :)

ParticipantGlad you’re enjoying it!
This is a beta test of the mod so if you see anything worth commenting on at all along the way, please do!

ParticipantIf you’ve picked this mod up after having been away from the game for a while it might be good to read the hints and tips posted with the latest release (and on the first page). They can serve as a pretty nice refresher. If you ever need hints and tips for battles just post your tactics and the castle you’re facing and I can give you some ideas. :)

ParticipantAh, Lu Bu and Chen Gong. The one right at the start? Make sure you picked up Li Dian—useful if you need the extra soldiers—and Guo Jia in the cave. Some armor from Chenliu (Xuzhou) can also help out quite a bit. If all else fails a level or two should get you a fire tactic that can be used to easily wipe out Lu Bu, leaving only Chen Gong to deal with. :)
I’ll put together a list of tactic names.

ParticipantI’ll get around to posting full instructions on how to edit item information. If I haven’t done so when you get to a point where you want to do it just let me know and I’ll send the instructions to you.
Those are pretty decent prices for the R4. :)
Only Suikoden game I’ve ever disliked is IV. Every other one has been awesome fun!

ParticipantLYS, is it possible to use a custom avatar? :)

It wouldn’t work as an uploaded avatar, though.

ParticipantI haven’t figured out how to create new weapons and items, but I have figured out how to create new hidden items. For example, I could place another Trident somewhere in Yuan Shao’s territory. Or I could put some gold on the ground under the horse at the beginning of the game. Or a steed. Or… whatever. I can even put food on the ground. :)
Pretty much anything in the item table I just posted.
And as far as i can tell I might be able to add ten or more new hidden items.
I use an R4. There are other add-ons. Basically, it is just a flash card reader shaped like a DS cartridge with Linux installed natively on it, running a program which reads the ROM to the DS using the DS’s own capabilities to render it (thus getting you near-perfect native emulation). Emulation on the computer just sucks for DS games.
Some people use these devices to play all the DS games they want without paying any money but for me it just serves as a way to play free trials. It also lets me do things like play games which were never released in the United States, which can be cool. I did it with the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games and Final Fantasy before it came out.

ParticipantIt is complete enough for playing. The edits I’m making are generally just tweaks. :)
I wanted to download the ROM for the Suikoden game just to make sure I like it. I’ve started doing that with DS games. If I like them I head right on out to the store to buy the actual cartridge, and if I don’t I move on with my life. Thanks to taking that precaution I’ve found some great games which I wouldn’t have played otherwise and I’ve avoided some games which I would have enthusiastically purchased but turned out to be poor or unenjoyable for me.
I’m pretty excited about the idea of Suikoden on my DS.

ParticipantI know you’re busy, LYS. Speaking of which, is that Suikoden game available in the United States? Or are you playing the European release?
I can add items to the map. That could be under a well, outside a city, in the mountains somewhere, on a road. Wherever. :)
No worries, Niahak. I was just giving you guys some grief. Jia Xu is still a royal jerk, but overall the game’s difficulty has actually been decreased. And areas which are still hard are hard in a more balanced manner, now.
I’ve updated the ROM twice since it was announced, most recently to fix an unexpected bug which impacted Cao Pi’s leveling. I’m going to be updating it again soon with some hidden items and more along the way as reported bugs are patched and features are possibly added. All of these updates will be compatible with saves based on the original complete beta release, but not earlier incomplete beta releases.

ParticipantI never thought SoSZ would be the place where all the testing involvement takes place. :)
This is the Destiny of an Emperor board!
Searchable Items
I’ve figured out how to add new searchable items to cities and the overworld map. If anybody has any fun suggestions for the Cao Cao edition please send them to james [at] kongming [dot] net. I’m not going to publish the list of searchable items I decide to add because I think it would be much more fun to allow players to discover and share them independently. :)
Xian Zhu Xuande
ParticipantI’ve mapped all the item references. :)
They are used in things like treasure contents, secret items on the map, and scripts.

ParticipantAnd so I can keep track of changes in an orderly manner… :)
To-Do List / Bug Tracker
Changes which need to be made or considered for final release.
- Opening Character Biographies

- Cao Cao’s red and white sprite (Possible?)
You’re fame will spread throughout the land.Fixed!- He Man’s introductory script. Does he have the power? (Decide)
- "… Liu Bei? Kill him too." Script Touchup?
- F10/F11; premature visit to Liu Bei/Taishi Ci fortress.
- Guan Yu giveth, and Guan Yu taketh—via Ambush! (Is wonky good?)
- Make Hua Xiong a worthwhile recruit in light of Li Dian.
- Ji Ling’s clone.
[LEADER], I’m sorry to wake you so early… [Wu Tugu]Fixed!- Omit confirmation for damage taken by enemy officers and rebels? (Decide) Applied!

ParticipantHehe. I’m just tired. I should be sleeping. :)
I just patched the ROM with fixes for a few of the minor issues already discovered at SoSZ along with your request, Niahak. The "[VALUE] [LVL-SLDR-AMT] of [OFFICER-2]’s soldiers were defeated.[END]" script no longer calls for user interaction. I tested it in-game and I actually like it quite a bit so far. You can re-download the ROM using the same link to use it.
And that gives me an interesting idea…
It might be worth adding confirmation to tactics like Negate.
