The Lu Bu in Yang Zhou is the same for every Lu Bu, including Ji Zhou and Jing Zhou. Indeed, the Gemsword only works in Yang Zhou.
The L? Bu in Ba-Shu is actually different from the L? Bu found elsewhere in the game. It wouldn?t be possible to know this if not for the variation in his intelligence. For the final battle Capcom has decided to give you a small edge in the battle?they reduced L? Bu?s intelligence to 40 from 72. This also helps to tell us that he occupies two entries in the game?s database. But yes, it can be confirmed that L? Bu does not join at any point beyond Yang Zhou.

ParticipantI?m still down with old-school Romance of the Three Kingdoms III.
Most action: Romance of the Three Kingdoms II.
Fondest Memories: Romance of the Three Kingdoms I.
Honorable Mention: VI, VII, IX, XI.

ParticipantI?ve been lurking around here for quite some time. :)
I just saw that topic, and figured I might as share the bits I?ve found out!
How could I not lurk here, being a Destiny of an Emperor fan?
And if Koei adds Yuan Shu as an officer, I?m sure they are going to butcher him in some way or another. I?m personally content to keep the image of him I formed with Destiny of an Emperor and the novel fresh in my mind. I need know no other Yuan Shu.

ParticipantNah, this is the only Japanese-specific trick that I know of (and I haven?t known about it more than four or five months myself, for that matter). From what I have been told, once you manage to defeat them you shoot up in levels (especially if you are around the point where you are just learning An Sha).
With some dedication, a person should be able to overcome the rebels even at that point in the games (especially if they can be found in groups of two), and after some adjustment, fight their way up to whatever level they wish. I?m not sure how many decent An Sha tacticians you can have at this point, though?certainly none of the best. After managing it, it should certainly be worth the effort of buying a few Gullwings and an officer or two of Smoke Pots.
The person who took the screenshot for me also gave me the Japanese ROM, so I?ve been thinking about playing through myself. I pretty much know the menus, but it is strange picking weapons and armor when there are no symbols to differentiate between them. I?ll be placing the ROM on the KMA downloads page as well so other people can snatch it up.

ParticipantHehe? I figured why not put it together while it is still fresh in my mind?

ParticipantYeah, this is a super-cool trick?but it doesn?t work in the English version of the game. :)
I?ve got some photo screenshots of the battles and details on the exact location, and I have been planning to post a little feature on it to Kongming?s Archives at some point in the upcoming future as well. When I do, feel free to snatch up any images you like for your own feature. Also, if you have the Japanese version of the game, you can play to that point and take actual ROM screenshots of the battles.
